12th Annual WIL Luncheon

October 1st, 2022

MILWAUKEE, WI
SPEAKER: Dr. SUSAN SANGHA

Dr. Susan Sangha started her career as an undergraduate at the University of British Columbia, where she was a laboratory technician for Dr. Catharine Rankin. In 2005, she completed her doctorate at the University of Calgary under the mentorship of Dr. Ken Lukowiak with funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. She then did a post-doctoral fellowship in Neurophysiology with Dr. Hans-Christian Pape at Westfälische Wilhelms Universität in Münster, Germany before joining Dr. Patricia Janak’s laboratory as a post-doctoral fellow at UCSF.

Dr. Sangha is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry/Stark Neuroscience Research Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine. Previously, she was an Associate Professor of Neuroscience & Behavior at Purdue University. Her research program focuses broadly on the neural mechanisms underlying fear suppression, safety, and reward signals, using a combination of behavioral, electrophysiological, and viral DREADD-based techniques in rats. This work is both significant and timely to research on sex differences in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and drug addictions. She is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and commentaries.

Aside from her research, Dr. Sangha is an excellent mentor to many neuroscience and psychology students and postdocs, and has been a great resource to many students in and outside of her lab. As our Distinguished Speaker, Dr. Sangha will be speaking about balancing life and academia at our 2022 WIL luncheon in Milwaukee, WI. We are thrilled to have Dr. Sangha as our featured speaker for the annual Women in Learning luncheon.
